Hardware Operations Associate
Job description
Hardware Operations Associate
Location: Columbia, MD (onsite)
Type: Full-time or part-time considered
Candidates must be authorized to work in the United States for the duration of employment without requiring current or future employer sponsorship of any kind, including but not limited to OPT, STEM OPT, H-1B, or any other visa classification.
Togetherwork is looking for someone to handle the day-to-day physical hardware work that keeps our remote-first workforce equipped. This is a hands-on role — you’ll help make sure laptops get out the door to new hires, come back cleanly from departing employees, get processed for reuse or decommission, and stay accurately tracked from receipt to retirement.
We support a large, distributed employee base from our Maryland office. That means a steady flow of shipments, returns, replacements, and lifecycle work — and we need someone who takes pride in doing that work well.
What You’ll Do
Immediate priorities:
- Work through our current backlog of returned laptops, sorting and processing for reuse or decommission
- Support execution of this quarter’s decommission sale
- Help move our Lenovo and Windows end-of-life refresh forward
Ongoing:
- Prepare and ship laptops for new hires — imaging, labeling, packaging, and handing off to the carrier
- Receive and process returns from offboarded and replaced employees
- Process laptop replacement requests — pull from stock, ship, and track the returned unit back in
- Maintain accurate inventory records across receipt, deployment, and return
- Use Jamf, Intune/AutoPilot, and Entra to verify device status, update records, and confirm enrollment or deactivation as part of shipments and returns
- Coordinate with the team on devices needing repair, warranty claims, or escalation
What You’ll Bring
- Comfort with physical work — unboxing, imaging, labeling, packing, and shipping equipment is the core of the job
- Strong attention to detail — inventory accuracy depends on it
- Organized and reliable — able to track dozens of open threads without losing them
- Basic familiarity with laptops and IT concepts — you don’t need to be a sysadmin, but you should be comfortable following an imaging process and recognizing when something isn’t right
- Ability to work independently once you know the process
Nice to Have
- Prior experience in IT support, hardware logistics, or asset management
- Familiarity with imaging tools, MDM platforms (Jamf, Intune), or ticketing systems (Jira)
- Exposure to asset management platforms (BlueTally, Snipe-IT, or similar)
- Experience with shipping logistics and carrier accounts
Why This Role
This is real, tangible work with a clear mission. If you like seeing a stack of returns turn into clean inventory, or watching a queue of replacement tickets clear out, this role will suit you. It’s also a solid entry point into IT — you’ll get hands-on exposure to the tools our team uses every day, including Jamf, Intune, AutoPilot, and Entra, with room to grow if you want it.
About the Team
You’ll join Togetherwork’s IT Hardware team in Maryland — the group responsible for procurement, provisioning, deployment, and lifecycle management of every physical device across the company. We support a large remote workforce and value clear communication, documentation, and doing things right the first time. If you take pride in organized inventory, clean shipments, and equipment that shows up ready to work, you’ll fit here.
The Company offers a comprehensive employee benefits program, including:
Medical, dental, and vision insurance options
100% Employer paid short/long term disability
100% employer-paid Basic Life and AD&D insurance
401(k) retirement plan with a 100% company match up to 4%
Flexible paid personal/vacation time built on mutual trust and accountability
10 sick days annually
10 company paid holidays
12 weeks paid parental leave
