Burson is seeking an Account Executive, Earned Media to support day‑to‑day media relations programs for our health and wellness clients, with a strong emphasis on pharmaceutical brands and regulated healthcare communications. This role is ideal for an early‑career public relations professional who is eager to build a strong foundation in earned media developing story ideas, pitching reporters, securing coverage, and supporting media engagement that drives awareness and credibility for complex brands.
The Account Executive will work closely with media relations leads, account leadership, and subject‑matter experts to execute earned media programs that align with client business objectives, comply with regulatory standards, and deliver measurable impact.
What you'll do:
- Support the day‑to‑day execution of earned media programs for health and wellness clients, with a primary focus on pharmaceutical accounts.
- Assist with media relations activities, including media list development, reporter research, pitching, follow‑ups, and coverage tracking.
- Draft, edit, and proofread earned media materials such as press releases, media pitches, backgrounders, fact sheets, Q&As, briefing documents, and spokesperson prep.
- Monitor news, industry trends, competitor activity, and reporter coverage to identify proactive story opportunities and media insights.
- Support development of coverage reports, media recaps, and performance summaries.
- Help prepare materials for and support participation in press briefings, interviews, medical congresses, and media events.
- Coordinate internally to align earned media efforts with overall communications goals.
- Support Medical, Legal, and Regulatory (MLR) review processes in compliance with FDA and client requirements.
- Participate in client meetings and support follow‑up communications.
Experience that contributes to success:
- Bachelor's degree in Public Relations, Communications, Journalism, Marketing, English, or a related field preferred.
- 1–2 years of experience in public relations, media relations, or communications.
- Strong interest in earned media, storytelling, and media relations, with a desire to build relationships with journalists, editors, and influencers.
- Interest or experience in health, wellness, pharmaceutical, or life sciences communications.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to draft media materials, pitches, briefing documents, and client communications.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines in a fast-paced agency environment.
- Familiarity with healthcare regulations, FDA guidelines, or MLR review processes is a plus.
- Ability to research healthcare trends, client industries, competitive landscapes, and media opportunities to support strategic recommendations.
- Proactive, resourceful, and eager to learn, with a strong sense of ownership and accountability for assigned work
- Familiarity with media monitoring and media database tools such as Cision, Muck Rack, Meltwater, or similar platforms is a plus.
- Passion for healthcare and wellness communications and a desire to help tell stories that educate, inspire, and positively impact patients, healthcare professionals, and communities.
